Brian Bruney Traded
Brian Bruney has been traded to the Washington nationals for a player to be named later. Updates to come.
UPDATE: 4:50 PM: Sorry for the late update, I was working when I heard the news. If Mark Feinsand's report is true, and the Yankees get the first pick overall in the Rule 5 Draft, that is one heck of a deal. Getting rid of an arbitration pitcher that would have rotted in the back of the bullpen for a potential MLB ready prospect...nice deal in my opinion even if it is just a player to be named later and NOT the rule 5 pick.
UPDATE: 5:25 PM: Mark Feinsand confirms it. Great pickup considering the Yankees could have just let Bruney become a free agent.

Wow. heard Atlanta was interested, but thought it was just smoke. Didn't see this coming. Guess Girardi just did not like the guy.
Actually, I think it helps his career....he was a back end bullpen pitcher for the Yanks and can be important for the Nats
Idk how they came away with the top overall pick of theRule 5 Draft lol...Some of those guys have went on to have really good careers.
THey could have just let him go as a free agent but they re-signed him and got that....great move right there, GREAT move
First pick in the rule 5 draft is not that big a deal. Especially for the Yankees. It'll be hard for one of those guys to stick for an entire season. Maybe they could get another reliever.
It's one heck of alot better than having Bruney rot in the pen OR just getting some random single-A player for Bruney. They don't even need to use it on a pitcher....they CAN use it on a SP for back-end, or OF, or utility IF....very good players are available
They could even trade the rule 5 pick during the offseason no guarantee they hold onto it.
Sweet deal. And you're right, it probably helps his career.
They might non-tender McDougal and make him their closer....then its a sweet deal for BOTH sides
