The Nick Swisher Rumor

Bob Nightengale of USA Today posted on his twitter the other day that the Yankees were making Nick Swisher available, and this morning Yahoo! Sports Rumors said the Yankee brass are claiming Swisher is not on the trading block. Mark J. Miller who wrote the Yahoo! Sports Rumors article also mentioned some people thought Swisher would be in a package deal for Roy Halladay. Personally I can't see Toronto taking any package that includes a player 29 years of age. Either way my question to the fans out there is: Can you at all justify any trade of Nick Swisher?

I'm all for acquiring Doc Halladay after seeing the numbers posted on this site. I didn't realize his numbers were so dominating. Though Swisher wasn't a fan favorite when Cash got him from CWS, he turned into a fan favorite very quickly. I think he set the atmosphere in the clubhouse with his music and positive attitude. I think without that this last yer may not of been as successful or memorable. For the Yankees his remaining contract looks as such;$6.75 million in 2010 and $9 million in $2011. His deal also includes a $10.25 million club option for 2012, with a $1 million buyout. His numbers compared to the league for RF'ers is good. His Batting AVG is down but his HR and RBI's are really good plus he switch hits. Too many positives to be excited about a trade involving Swisher.

I totally agree on Halladay as I wrote the article on Halladay I myself was pretty astounded by some of the numbers. Since I can't see the Blue Jays be overly interested in having Swisher in a package I think Swisher, if shopped, would be shopped to for other options (Granderson perhaps). Other than Doc I really cant see myself being OK with anyother trade involving Swisher. He just means way to much to the morale of the clubhouse.

I wouldn't mind keeping Wsisher. Fun guy, decent role player. I'm not loving it when he starts every day. But as a 1B/Of backup, and late-inning pinch-hitter, I'd love him.

As for parting with him for Halladay. Heck yes. if they want him, sure.

Thanks for reading and one quick thing: Nick Swisher would never be a backup/pinch-hitter....its just not gonna happen

I agree with Brandon I think if Swisher was dealt it would be for/or a sign of a big OF acquistion. He is to valuable to be a bench guy and they Yankees now see they can't hurt his career like that.
