AAA Recap of the Week

The International League North division leading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees had a solid, rain shortened past week.

(8/10) On Monday, young gun Anthony Claggett and the Yanks took the series opener against the Norfolk Tides in a 6-1 victory. Claggett went 5 inn., allowing only 3 hits and 1 ER, lowering his ERA to 2.92. Kevin Russo went yard for the first time this season; giving him RBI number 21. Other RBI’s were driven in by Austin Jackson (48), Chris Stewart 2 (13), and Juan Miranda (67).

(8/11) Newly signed Yankee Russ Ortiz threw a gem in his second outing in a SWB uniform on Tuesday, going 7 innings, one hit and 6 k’s in a 9-0 shutout of the Tides. Kevin Russo hit his second home run in two nights, his only two thus far for the team, along with Cody Ransom hitting his third in AAA. RBI’s were driven in by Reegie Corona (5), Austin Jackson (49), Kevin Russo (22), Juan Miranda 2 (69), Cody Ransom 3 (11), and Chris Stewart (14).

(8/12) Wednesday’s game against Norfolk was postponed due to rain, rescheduled for the following night, and a day/night doubleheader.

(8/13) In the day portion of the doubleheader on Thursday, the Yankees took a rain-shortened 4-2 loss to the Tides in 7 innings. On the plus side, Shelley Duncan hit home run number 26 and drove in RBI number 77, while Yurendell de Caster drove in RBI number 11. Big Rumulo Sanchez took the loss, and Mark Melancon did a great job in 2.2 innings of relief.

(8/13) The night (and makeup) game of the doubleheader was again postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been announced.

(8/14) The Yankees took the series opener against the Durham Bulls on Friday. The team knocked around Andy Sonnanstine, smacking 11 hits and 7 runs off of him. Juan Miranda hit home run number 17. RBI’s were driven in by: Colin Curtis (21), Austin Jackson 3 (52), Cody Ransom (12), Yurendell de Caster (12), John Rodriguez (52), and Juan Miranda 2 (71). The stud Zach Kroenke got the win in relief, going 2.2 inn., with 4 Ks and no hits. He replaced Ivan Nova in the 5th inning, who also got smacked around, giving up 9 hits and 5 ER in 4.1 inn.

(8/15) The Yanks took a loss on Saturday to the Bulls 5-4. Kei Igawa only went 4 innings, allowing 8 hits, 3 ER and 2 home runs. Juan Miranda hit his 18th home run, which is RBI number 72, and John Rodriguez hit his 14th , RBIs 53-55, in the loss.

The lone transaction of the week was Josh Towers being demoted to AAA from the MLB team on Wednesday.
