Brett Tomko to Start Tomorrow for the A's

Brett Tomko will make his first appearance of the season for the A's against the team that released him, the Yankees. Tomko will replace Justin Duchscherer, who was supposed to start until he was declared unable to pitch. The reason? "Non-baseball related reasons." According to the SF Gate "Duchscherer was scratched from a rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on July 31 with what the team called a non-baseball related issue which was never explained."

SERIES PREVIEW:

MONDAY: A.J. Burnett vs. Brett Tomko

Burnett is coming off a 6 IP 10 H 3 ER performance against the Blue Jays. Tomko I imagine really wants to beat the Yankees, who he claimed did not give him a fair-shot.

Tuesday: CC Sabathia vs. Vin Mazzaro

Sabathia beat the Athletics earlier in the year pitching 7 Innings while giving up 3 ER. Mazzaro faced the Yankees giving up 6 ER in 4.1 IP.

Wednesday: Chad Gaudin vs. Brett Anderson

Gaudin, a former Athletic, will make his first start as a Yankee. Anderson has been inconsistent this year, but at times has been lights out.

PREDICTION: Yankees take game 1 8-4, game 2 5-4 and lose game 3 6-3.

I wonder if that "non-sports related reason was, that they have a buyer for him. Several teams have been scouting him, believe it or not.

As much as I agree that teams are interested, I do not believe teams would want to trade for him WITHOUT his MLB start....i think that would be more of a reason for him TO start. He may be shutting it down to get a good contract in the offseason without injuring himself, however.
