Minor League Recap 8/20-8/23

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees reached the 70 win plateau this week, after going 2-2 this half week.

(8/20 [day]) On Thursday, the Yanks split a 7-inning doubleheader with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, taking game one 4-3. Ivan Nova went a strong 6 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 ER. Jonathon Albaladejo blew the save, but got the win in relief. Austin Jackson hit the game-winning single (55) in the bottom of the 7th. Other RBIs were driven in by Shelley Duncan 2 (84) and Yurendell de Caster (16).

(8/20 [night]) The Yankees lost the night portion by a score of 9-4. Kei Igawa got knocked around again, going just 2.1 inn. and allowing 6 hits and 4 earned. Mark Melancon gave up 3 earned over 1.2 innings. On the plus side, Kevin Russo hit home run number 3, and Shelley Duncan hit number 27. RBIs were driven in by Juan Miranda (76), Kevin Russo (24), and Shelley Duncan 2 (86).

(8/21) On Friday, the SWB got roughed up again in a 9-1 loss to the IronPigs. Romulo Sanchez took the loss, going just 4.1 inn., allowing 6 hits and 3 ER. Zach Kroenke gave up 3 earned in 1.1 inn. of relief. The lone RBI was driven in by Reegie Corona (8).

(8/22) On Saturday, the Yankees took the opener against the Buffalo Bisons, shutting them out 1-0. After a 56 minute rain delay, Josh Towers had a very strong outing, going 6 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 5. Mark Melancon and Jonathon Albaladejo combined for 3 scoreless, hitless innings. Albaladejo got save number 8. The lone Yankee RBI was driven in by Shelley Duncan (87).

(8/23) On Sunday, the Yanks won game two of the series against the Bisons by a score of 2-1. Jason Hirsh improved to 3-0 as he went 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 earned. Michael Dunn pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Jonathon Albaladejo struck out the side to get save number 9. Austin Jackson’s two-run double (57) in the 3rd inning provided all the Yankee scoring for the game.

Transactions: Ramiro Peña was optioned to SWB, as Damaso Marte was called up to the MLB team. Amaury Sanit, George Kontos, and Doug Bernier were all placed on the 7-day DL, while Romulo Sanchez was activated.
